Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 30, 2026
Bramwell (“Bramwell”, “we”, “us”) is a household memory app published by Cyrill Rousseau, an independent developer. This policy explains what information Bramwell handles, what leaves your device, and what never does.
Bramwell was built on a simple rule: your household is yours. Everything you tell Bramwell stays on your device unless a feature genuinely needs to send something out — and this policy lists exactly those cases.
The short version
- Your memories — items, places, containers, photos, and your household name — are stored only on your device. Bramwell has no accounts and no servers that store your household data.
- Photos you attach to a container as a memory never leave your device.
- Photos you take during a bin scan, and the words you type or speak, are sent to an AI service so Bramwell can understand what you said or what’s in the bin. That is the only time your content leaves the device.
- Voice dictation is handled by Apple’s speech recognition, on your device where your device supports it.
- No ads, no trackers, no third-party analytics, no location tracking. Place names in Bramwell are words you type (“Attic”, “Right Side”), never GPS.
- You can erase everything instantly with “Forget everything” in Settings.
What Bramwell stores on your device
Bramwell has no sign-up and no user accounts. Everything below is saved in the app’s private storage on your iPhone or iPad and is not uploaded to us:
- Household memories — the items you save, their names, categories, notes, aliases, and where you said they are
- Places and containers — rooms, areas, bins, drawers and shelves, including their names and any notes
- Photos — photos you attach to items or containers
- Your household’s name — whatever you call your home in Settings
- Subscription state — a cached record of your Bramwell Plus status so a paying household isn’t wrongly downgraded if the app opens offline
If you back up your device with iCloud or a computer, Bramwell’s data is included in that backup under Apple’s normal backup practices. We have no access to your backups.
What leaves your device, and when
Bramwell uses an AI service to understand plain language and photographs. These are the only transmissions of your content, and each one is listed here:
1. Understanding what you type or say
When you type or dictate something like “Christmas lights are in the attic, right side, blue bin”, Bramwell sends:
- the sentence you entered, and
- a compact list of what your household already contains — item names, categories, and location paths — so Bramwell understands context and doesn’t duplicate things you’ve already told him.
This goes through a secure connection to our AI processing service (Rork’s infrastructure, which relays the request to a Google Gemini language model) purely to generate Bramwell’s response. We do not use this content for advertising, and we do not sell it.
2. Reading a photo during a bin scan
When you use the scan feature — taking a photo of an open bin, drawer, or shelf so Bramwell can suggest what’s inside — that photo is sent to the same AI service to be read.
Important distinction: photos you attach as a memory to a container or item stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. Only photos taken in the scan flow, for the purpose of being read, are transmitted.
3. Voice dictation
When you press the microphone and speak, Bramwell uses Apple’s speech recognition. Where your device supports on-device recognition, Bramwell requires it, so the audio never leaves your phone. On devices or languages without on-device support, Apple’s speech service transcribes the audio under Apple’s own privacy practices. Bramwell does not record, store, or transmit your audio itself, and keeps only the resulting transcription so you can save what you said.
4. Purchases
If you subscribe to Bramwell Plus, purchases are processed by Apple, and Bramwell uses RevenueCat to manage subscriptions and entitlements. RevenueCat receives only what it needs to confirm your subscription: an anonymous app-user identifier and your purchase receipt. It never receives your memories, photos, or anything you’ve said to Bramwell.
What we do not do
- No advertising. Bramwell shows no ads and shares nothing with ad networks.
- No third-party analytics. Product events (for example, that a paywall was viewed) are recorded only in your device’s own local system log, contain no item names, places, photos, or identifiers, and are not sent to us or anyone else.
- No location tracking. Bramwell never accesses GPS or precise location. “Places” are names you type yourself.
- No contacts, no browsing history, no health data, no financial data beyond your Apple-handled purchase.
- Nothing is public. There is no feed, no sharing, no search by anyone but you.
Data retention and deletion
- On-device data stays until you remove it. Deleting an item or photo removes it immediately. “Forget everything” in Settings permanently removes every item, place, and photo from the app on your device — this cannot be undone.
- Because we have no servers storing your household, there is no copy for us to delete — deleting it on your device deletes it, full stop.
- Requests sent to the AI service are used to generate a response to you. We do not retain copies of your sentences or scan photos after the response is produced. The AI provider’s handling of data during processing is governed by their own terms and policies.
- Uninstalling the app removes Bramwell’s data and its cached subscription state from your device. Your subscription itself is managed by Apple and is not cancelled by uninstalling — see Settings → your Apple Account → Subscriptions.
Security
Your data is stored in the app’s private on-device storage, protected by iOS. Anything transmitted — AI requests, purchase verification — travels over encrypted connections.
Children
Bramwell is a general-audience app and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13. Since there are no accounts and no data collection, there is nothing for us to collect.
Changes to this policy
If Bramwell’s data practices ever change, we will update this policy and change the effective date above. Material changes will also be surfaced in the app.
